Hey Everybody, so it has been nearly a month since my last post so why not start when I am LA bound in 8 days. these 11/12 weeks have been crazy and I will tell you and you can understand why I have not been updating as frequently as I once was. That is because of the RESEARCH PAPER.
So my May was basically consumed in its entirety by the horrible, awful, no good, terrible, very bad 25 page research project. Many of you may not know this, but you need a lot of research to write a 25 page research paper, it is kind of big part of the process. Really Big! Yeah, so after hours and hours and hours of writing, reading, and interviewing 21 pages are written hooray and I am well on my way to 25 pages before Tuesday. For those of you who are unaware with what it is I am researching, basically I am looking at the financial crises affecting public higher education systems (cough*UC system*cough) nationwide.
But I did do some fun things this month I swear! The first/2nd weekend of May was Passport to Europe, a day when all of the European Union affiliated Embassies open their doors to hoi polloi(p.s Apple does not recognize the word hoi polloi, how pedantic). So a few countries that were open Sweden, Germany, Spain(or Espana), Portugal amongst many others. My friend an I decided to go and tour Denmark, Italy, and the UK. The embassies being open to the public is not the only cool part of this day, but the free swag(stuff) they hand out at all the embassies.
Our first stop on this whirlwind adventure was Denmark, or the Danish Embassy. And I know what you are all wondering, and yes they did have Danishes, but alas they were not free. The grounds of the Embassy were really pretty and very Denmark-esque quaintness.
The second stop was the Italian Embassy, which looks like it was designed by Italian version of IKEA. As everything was super modern and brightly colors, like IKEA. But Italian in that there were old paintings everywhere and every seating surface in the entire embassy was leather, very Italian of them. Also, very Italian was the security screening, which consisted of walking through metal detectors, the detectors buzzing, and the guards not caring( There was probably some futbol match going on that was more important) However, the most Italian part of the whole embassy was probably that as you walked out, you passed by a Ferrari, a Maserati, a Fiat, and a Vespa. The car nut in was very excited by this.
Our final stop, the time lapse between Denmark and here is about 3 hours by the way, was the British Embassy. Now UK wins for biggest and well as best embassy. Not only did we get free tote-bags(hooray eco-friendly shopping), but also they had free stuff from Scotland(flags!) Wales(Brochures), and Northern Ireland. However, you had to win the big prize of Irish porcelain, which I won because I guessed how many American’s visited Northern Ireland last year(160,000 FYI). My friend really liked that they also had free Whiskey cocktails, courtesy of Scotland’s #1 Whiskey or Scotch. It was Whiskey, Ginger Ale, and Lime over Ice and because we on British soil I could legally imbibe. Let me say it twas very very refreshing!
The next weekend was paper writing weekend, except for my walk to the GWU campus and law school. GWU is not Davis, let me just say that, both good and bad.
Last weekend, My Friend and I went to the Holocaust Museum to finally see the famed permanent exhibit. Some highlighted parts of the exhibit include a train car used to ship families to the camps, thousands of shoes taken from those who were gassed, and actual canisters of the gas used in the chambers. An eerie feeling was definitely combined with awe of the museum.
I am fast approaching my last weekend here in the Capitol and I will miss it, but I am excited to return back to a land free of HUMIDITY! IT’S AWFUL PEOPLE! NOT ONLY IS IT 90 DEGREES OUT IT’S ALSO 80% HUMIDITY! I’M IN AN OVEN.
Plans for the last weekend: Arlington National Cemetery and American History Museum and of course finishing up my lovely research paper.
Later days!
